     Close the ceremony

    13.30 Departure to Schools
  • Wellcome.
Who are we?Why are we here? What are we doing here?
We believe in equal chances for every one.
We think that S.A. is one of the most unequal societies in the world.

Who thinks to have equal chances ? Same chances than a child of rich white parents?
Legally  all of you have equal rights.. But that is legally.
Realistically: 90 % are colored and black people in this country  and most of them are not rich, but poor. 10 % are white people and most of them have a good income or are rich.

    Why is this so?
Don’t blame your parents for being poor! History, not same chances in education (better schools, Unis, jobs etc

    Can we change this?
    Yes we have to!

    How can we change this?
Answer: “ Remember the golden 3 Es” Education, education, education
Education= Job; Job=Income; Income=more education; more education= better income etc.

Who agrees to the 3 golden E to be the answer to poverty?

    Notice:
-good opportunity to get in close contact with awarded learners and their guardians and principals who do a wonderful job to support these wonder furl and talented young girls and boys together with us.
    - Who are we? Butzi and I and 34 wonderful friends in Europe and USA. Some have accompanied us on our visit to see you and to award you:

  • Ilse and Jürgen ,Board of Directors in Germany, Bishop Dr-. J-J- Ulster our Patron and long term Chairman of the Board in S.A., Jeanne, Armanda, Bernedette, members of our Talent Commitee here to do the selection.
The the richest of our friends who are supporting you are Millionärs, the most educated ones are CEOs,Entrepreneurs, Laywers, Doctors and Dentists,  and the youngest one is 10 years old. (see picture).

They all help us paying for your support, because Butzi and I are not rich enought to help all 50 of you. And they expect that we discuss with you, what ist the best way to help you.

What did we have in mind, when we decided to support 50 accademically talented children with disadvantages background.?
    Does anyone has an idea?
    2 things:
    a) to pay back
    b
    ) to be efficient.
efforts should have effect for generations to get out of the circle of poverty,
How is that possible to be done?
The 3 E: Education-Education-Education (look at your sponsors; educated
Do we all agree about that?
Ok, than let us do some practical work:
Let us discuss, whether or not our financial support gives you better education????

Technikberufe habe grosse Zukunft

Speaker and their subjects

Vice President and Organizer of the Conference:
 Butzi Spiering,

"Welcome to the AGC "Annual Guardians' Conference"
and why do we need it every year again?"

Guardian's comments: Bernedette Cunningham
(
Thanks. Do we need an AGC? What can it be good for?)

Foundations President: Paul Spiering
"If the Initiative "Give a Child a Future" is successful, it is due to their partner! Who are the partners?
Why are our guardian teachers most important partner?"

Guardian's questions

Foundation's Patron: Bishop Dr. J.J. Ulster:
"Vision and Mission" of Give a Child a Future"
"Our Vision and Mission is:
Education is a key in the fight against poverty."

"
Therefore Spierings Foundation supports "Talented Children in Need".
Target is
enabling them to finish high school with best possible results.
Thereby they have a chance for bursary at a university or college
and for a life beyond poverty.
They should set an example to others in making their contribution towards their country in a position of leadership."

(What are the important details of our program?
1. Only a High School's principal may apply for Foundation's "Sponsorship Award for Talent".

Why? (He and his staff knows best who fulfills Foundation's criteria. He applies only for academically strong, disadvantaged learners with parents in bad need.

2. Funds are to be paid to high school to support awarded learners.
How to use the funds?
(Principal, guardian and TCM decide as a team about how to spend funds most efficiently? Funds may not be used for:…Funds may be used for.. Funds should be effectively used …Goal: tertiary studies)

3. The Spierings Foundation and Co-Sponsors request for "Feed Back" (PPR)
Why?
(Controlling: Have funds been used in a proper way? Is child still academically strong and in need? Dead lines?)

4. Foundation's website www.giveachildafuture.com informs Sponsors about progress of "their Child".
What information are needed from the school to attract new sponsors and others to continue?
(nice success stories, e-mails from the child)

Guardians' questions

Board member: Rev. TCM Minnie Cunningham
" TCM " Members of Foundation's TALENT COMMITTEE"
(TCM: Selecting 'talented children in need'; assisting guardian to support child; shares decision about how  using funds best to improve semester results; assisting to report to Foundation; solve problems if any; motivate learners  to use Internet  and to see their own homepage;  to use e-mail contact with Foundation and Co-Sponsor reg. updates for their homepage story; - to inform so-sponsor in case of urgently needed additional help;- give feed back and give ideas for more effectively support????Guardian's questions?

Chairperson of Foundation's Board of Directors Leanne Stellenberg
"Reporting to Foundation is important if the school wants to receive further funds" and  "How to improve Co-operation between School and Foundation?

(PPR includes financial report; indicate accumulated expenses in detail for controlling purpose; report about progress and plans for updating Foundation's website; report before deadlines: 15.8 + 13.2.; communicate with Foundation electronically only!)

Talking about improving co-operation?

  • 1.      Foundation needs impact for how to use funds most effectively.

  • 2.      All reports must be on Foundations forms to avoid missing answers.

  • 3.      All reports must be issued and sent electronically. Some send handwritten documents.

  • 4.      Guardians having problems can contact Timothy at Leanne Stellenberg's office.

SPEAKERS:

Butzi Spiering, Vice President and Organizer of the Conference.
"Welcome to the AGC "Annual Guardians' Conference"
and why do we need it every year again?"

I have been asked to
 organize  The A G  C
I hope I am doing a good job.
And I hope you all feel well today in this surrounding.
I will do my very best that you do!

We have invited guardians from 11 high schools.
Those guardians are supporting the program "Give a Child a Future"
You are the persons playing the major role in the game:.

You all are persons who share with us the vision to  "support Talented Children in Need."

In the future, this Conference will be and important part of the Educational Initiative " Give a Child a Future ".
We will meet annually to share our vision and experiences.
The Foundation appreciates your engagement:

Let us try to do this - though efficiently- but in a relaxed atmosphere.
WE wish that we all can make some new friends over the years.
Paul and I have made some already during all the years of partnership
and we wish to make more and more every time we have met here.

This AGC should become an important part of the program: "Give a Child a Future".
Will try to arrange it every year on that Saturday, which is closest to 1st  of March.
And all of you are invited again on Saturday, 28th February 2009

I wish all of us Good Luck and a very pleasant morning!!! Butzi Spiering

All of them support "Give a Child a Future" with all of their heart.
You have important impact to choose the right persons and to
" -nominate a talented child in need.
You are "- discovering their strength and needs" and
You are "- deciding about  what kind of support in detail will help to reach their goal best".
You decide about   "how efficient the funds are to be  spent".

the quality of the guardian's decision
makes a difference to the child's life or even not.

Spending the funds Careless and wrong,
that means waste of money and more important:
No better future for the child.!!!!!

Guardians have to play probably the most important part in the game.

Patron, Bishop Dr. J. J. Ulster or Chairperson: Leeanne Stellenberg
"Our Vision and Mission is:
Education is a key in the fight against poverty."

Therefore Spierings Foundation supports "Talented Children in Need".
Target is
enabling them to finish high school with best possible results.
Thereby they have a chance for bursary at a university or college
and for a life beyond poverty.
They should set an example to others in making their contribution towards their country in a position of leadership.

What are the important details of our program?
1. Only a High School's principal may apply for Foundation's "Sponsorship Award for Talent".

Why? (He and his staff knows best who fulfils Foundation' criteria. He applies only for academically strong, disadvantaged learners with parents in bad need. )

2. Funds are to be paid to high school to support awarded learners.
How to use the funds?
(Principal, guardian and TCM decide as a team about how to spend fund most efficiently. Funds may not be used for:…Funds may be used for.. Funds should be effectively used …Goal: tertiary studies)

3. The Spierings Foundation and Co-Sponsors request for "Feed Back" (PPR)
Why?
(Have funds been used in a proper way? Is child still academically strong and in need? Dead lines?)

4. Foundation's website www.giveachildafuture.com informs Sponsors about progress of "their Child".
What information are needed from the school to attract new sponsors and others to continue?
(nice success stories, e-mails from the child)
