SDP
Student Development Program
Mission: To assist matriculates if they have not yet succeeded to start tertiary education.  We want to give them some professional advise about alternatives to further their studies.
We do not think about giving bursaries. But we want to help, that they help themselves. We probably could also assist them finding a job so that they earn money and can pay  for their studies themselves

Protokoll of meeting 27.2.2010:

Participating Members of the SDP Committee:
Paul Spiering, mail
Prof. Dr. Miki Flockemann
Ampie de Vries, principal
Butzi Spiering,
Dr. Rob Gaylard,
Bernedette Cunningham;
Victoria Dietrich
Peter Dietrich,
1. Dr. Flockemann and Dr. Gaylard gave individual advice and demonstrated that there are many options and alternatives to study if one failed til now to be accepted.
2. There are Job opportunities for those who would like to earn money to pay for their further education: at CTFM (Cape Town Fish Market) Stellenbosch, Col Cacchia, Pizza, Stellenbosch, Guardian Peak Restaurant, Stellenbosch and others.
1 Roberto V. took immediately the chance for an interview with Nikki, Guardian Peak Restaurant. 4 students have received recommendation letters from The Spierings Foundation, 3 strudents would prefer to work in the Tiger Valley area. We are trying to establish relations to business owners there and inform the students about progress. Others (Ashley Daniesl, Gavin and Alvin (all Cloetesville) should contact Paul or Mr. A. de Vries if they are interested to find a job.
3. We have recommended to look for an education and a job as waiter, as income (tips) is good, working times are after the University lessons and contact with english speaking guests will further their educaton

Important advice of UCT (Sunday Times 28.2.2010: Christina Kennedy)

-The onus is on you to apply well before the dead line, even though this does not guaranty you will be invited to register...but you can get advice, get to know the admission rewuirements and investigate alternative options if necessary;
-spread your net wide and apply to several tertiary institutions;
-Consider to apply for more than one programme of study;
-Remember university places are limited. ...at UTC fewer than half of the applications wer invited to register, bases on their accademical performance and matric results.
-Make shur your matric marks are as good as possible;
-Ensure you have the right subject choice;
- Make sure your matric marks are as good as possible!
-Make use of the various universities' student advice centres, attend career expos and information days, ask questions and
-Most important: Dont give up hope!

Dear Partners.
Foundation's Board has approved to establish an additional program, to be called “Student Development Program” (SDP)

SDP mission is to help, if possible, those matriculates who have not yet succeeded to start tertiary education.

We do not think about giving bursaries. But we want to help, that they help themselves. We want to give them some professional advise about alternatives to further their studies. We probably could also assist them finding a job so that they earn money and can pay themselves for their studies.
We have contacted Restaurants and Hotels. Some would be ready to educate and hire some of our matriculates to become a waiter or give them other opportunities.

Matriculates, who are really in need and who intended but failed to further their studies are invited to join us for a lunch at Col Cacchio
I kindly ask you to send me their names, e-mail addresses and/or cell phone numbers by SMS to 0761692249

Kindest regards. Paul Spiering, President and the Team of The Spierings Foundation, Friends and Partners, Phone: +1 239 267 0319, www.giveachildafuture.com  mail@giveachildafuture.com
